My fiance and I had a friend marry us, so we had to come up with our own ceremony. We didn’t want to write it ourselves, but we didn’t want a cookie-cutter religious ceremony either. This book was the answer we were looking for. I bought many books, but ended up only using this one. It’s extremely well organized, and even comes with worksheets!
It’s organized by type of ceremony you want (i.e. traditional religious, contemporary non-religious, quick, second time around), and this was perfect for us. The readings, vows, and everything in that section ended up being exactly what we were looking to say. We read through the whole book to make sure other selections in other sections weren’t better, but we always ended up loving what was in the section for the type of wedding we wanted. The people who did this book have impecable taste.
This book focuses on love, commitment, and in some cases religion without being cheesy or overdone. They have all the classic wedding things you’d expect (such as Corinthians for readings), but they also add readings that are less traditional, but equally romantic and applicable to your ceremony. It has a sense of uniqueness, but still traditional.
I highly recommend this book to anyone doing their own ceremony, or even people who just want to add a little something extra. I couldn’t have done my ceremony without it!
Between the organization and taste, this book was really well done. It was such a relief that they organized it by ceremony type (and then by type in the back, such as readings, vows, ring vows), so you’re not feeling lost reading through 100 different readings and hating all of them. This is a bride must-have!

I was fascinated by “A Wedding Ceremony to Remember.” This easy-to-read manual has many ideas and suggestions to help you plan a wedding ceremony that is just perfect for you! Whether you follow one of the suggested ceremonies, or use it as a springboard for your own ideas, you will be very glad that you have this book in your possession. I found the “All In The family” and “Second Time Around” sections especially interesting and creative. I wish I would have had this manual when planning my own wedding ceremony. Purchase it today…you won’t be sorry!

This book has been so helpful in planning my ceremony. I wanted to tell other brides why.
1. This is a “how to” manual that is not just another wedding planner, but rather a “word planner”. It makes you give some thought to what should be the most important part of your ceremony–the words that are spoken. (Plus, you know what’s going to be said so there are no surprises.) 2. It’s concise and complete. It gives you just enough choices without overwhelming you. It offers more than vows and readings like so many other books. You can create your entire ceremony or choose one “as is”. 3. It’s easy to use because it’s laid out so simply (including the personalized ceremony worksheets).
Thank you, Mr. Younkin, for allowing us brides to have a choice in what we want said during our ceremony. (Mine is all put together just the way I want it.)
A Thankful Bride

What a gem! I bought this book for my daughter who simply wanted a Justice of the Peace to perform a civil ceremony. That also was my choice 25 years ago and it was the most generic, impersonal blah ceremony I had ever heard. I was heartbroken and didn’t want my daughter to make the same mistake. The civil ceremony in this book is eloquent, warm and personable, especially the wedding vows. With this, my daughter still can get her non-religious civil ceremony performed by the J.P., but this way she gets to pick out the words and tell him what to say! Maybe my husband and I will even use the vow renewal ceremony for our 25th anniversary this year. What a great book!

In writing my own wedding ceremony, I’ve borrowed countless books from the library and have done extensive internet research. Whereas many of the available resources focus solely on words used for the vows, readings, and ring exchange, this workbook covers the entire ceremony from start to finish, including the sometimes overlooked parts of the ceremony such as welcome and introduction, declaration of intent/consent, the meaning of the rings, and wedding blessings. The author provides entire ceremony scripts for seven different types of situations: both traditional and contemporary religious ceremonies, a civil ceremony, a “short and sweet” service, and finally, ceremonies for both second marriages and marriages with children involved. If you would prefer to create your own ceremony by mixing and matching, there are chapters on readings, wedding vows, ring exchange vows, and prayers and blessings; another chapter offers descriptions of several wedding traditions as well as other special touches to make your wedding unique.
One note of caution about this book: the author states that he has written this book using “the best of the best” words for weddings, but this means that the selection of choices is somewhat limited. Unlike some other ceremony planning books (such as The Knot Guide to Vows), you will not find page after page of suggestions for readings, vows, etc. In addition, the book does not address the topic of music, and it fails to include explanations of cultural traditions such as breaking the glass and jumping the broom. Despite these cautions, however, this is a useful book, particularly for those just beginning to determine the format for their wedding.
